At Keys to the City, we see a future where unique and characterful instruments serve as more than just tools for music; they become platforms for sustaining a thriving musical culture in the city.

Our vision extends beyond the stage and into the fabric of the community. We aim to open up diverse spaces across the city for conversation, interaction, and social cohesion. Inspired by Ray Oldenburg's concept of "third places," our goal is to create spaces that transcend gender and racial barriers and reimagine these gathering spots for the 21st century.

Our vision

Our mission is to help grow a thriving and interconnected music culture in cities that prioritizes generous pay for artists, consistent opportunities, reinvestments in music education and healthy community spaces.

Our mission

We open and/or activate spaces through installing analog and mechanical instruments, setting the stage for intimate performances and community engagement. We see each instrument as a 'key' to unlock the untapped potential of various spaces, transforming them into hubs of cultural and social enrichment.

By doing so, we strive to transform the very landscape of social possibilities in our cities, creating spaces that prioritize and invest in people, art and artists.
